Why one-thumb controls make or break a mobile strategy game

The more mobile games I review, the more I notice how much control layout matters. On a phone you're often standing, one-handed, half-distracted. A game that demands two thumbs and pinpoint accuracy is fighting the platform.

The ones that get it right, like Big Rush Cast, put everything under a single thumb without dumbing down the play. That's harder than it sounds — you need generous hit areas and controls that forgive a slightly late tap.

Strategy games struggle here more than most, because they want you placing units precisely. The good ones add snapping, undo buttons, and clear confirmation before you commit an expensive move.

My rule of thumb, pun intended: if I can play comfortably on a crowded bus, the controls pass. If I need a table and full attention, that's a mark against it.
